Porches & sunrooms

Experience the outdoors without the heat, the insects and the rain.

That line is ours. It also happens to be the whole reason a porch gets built in East Texas: you want to sit outside in July without paying for it.

Chapter 01

Three ways to keep the weather out

An open porch is a roof over a deck, nothing more. It breaks direct sun and keeps rain off the boards, and it's the cheapest way to add covered square footage to a house. It does not stop mosquitoes and it does not stop wind-driven rain, so treat it as shade first and shelter second.

Screen the same porch in and the bugs stop being part of the evening. East Texas humidity brings mosquitoes out fast once the sun drops, and a screened porch is the difference between sitting out at dusk and going back inside at dusk. It's the most requested upgrade once people have lived with an open one for a summer.

A sunroom goes further still and seals the space with real windows, so it holds up through a hard summer sun or a cold snap in January and stays usable either way. It costs more than a screen because it's closer to building a room than covering a deck, but it's the only one of the three you can use in every season without a jacket or a fan.

The 3D drawing comes before anything gets cut

We draw your porch in three dimensions on your own property before a single post goes in, so you're looking at your house with the porch on it rather than guessing from a sketch. Change the roofline, the screen height, the step count, whatever you want, as many times as it takes.

Construction starts once you've signed off and not one day earlier. It's a small extra step that removes the one thing that actually goes wrong on a porch job, which is a customer seeing the real thing for the first time after it's already built.

Chapter 03

Fast, clean, and the site gets left the way they found it

Joanne Cook wrote that Brian's crew built her patio cover fast and efficient, with amazing quality, and cleaned up completely after the work was done. That's the standard on a porch job specifically, because a covered structure means lumber, screen material and roofing scraps on the ground for however many days the build runs.

John and Don get named as the carpenters on another porch job, and that's typical of how people write about this crew. They remember who was standing on their property, not just the company that sent the invoice.
